8 Things Your Bikini Waxer Wants You to Know

It’s a pretty private business but admit it. Waxing down there isn’t something that can be easily pulled off (no pun intended) by anyone. Bikini waxing is certainly something you should leave to the pros.

But we understand. It’s quite normal to be a little nervous about skin and body treatments such as a bikini wax—especially for first-timers. However, regardless of whether it’s your first or fifteenth time, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact, it’s always good to be educated about the process and to welcome any advice from your expert waxer. Here are the five constant things your bikini waxer wants you to know.

  1. They’re not judging you.

It’s easy to think that your bikini waxer is judging you—or your vulva—when you get that bikini wax, but here’s the thing: they’re really not. Think about it. They see all colours and sizes in that beauty salon every day. If you think your lady parts is something to be embarrassed about, chances are, they really don’t care. It’s just another workday for them. Don’t worry about it.

  1. Please, please, please don’t shave.

This tip may no longer be new to long-time clients, but it’s still worth mentioning. Whatever you do, don’t shave your pubes. Shaving in between body waxing appointments will encourage hair to come back more quickly. It also causes the hair to be coarser because you’re shaving off the hair above the skin. You’re not really dealing with the roots. Not only that, but it also increases your chances of getting ingrown hairs, razor burn, and skin irritation.

  1. Schedule wisely.

The rule of thumb is don’t schedule your waxing session five days before your menstrual cycle, during your period, or immediately after. It’s pretty obvious that you shouldn’t get waxed during your period, but remember not to get waxed five days before or immediately after either. Your beautician has the right to refuse to give you service if you’re on your period, and you should be grateful for that for one simple reason: it’s a lot more painful for you. Before, during, and after your period, the skin in the bikini area becomes extremely sensitive.

  1. Don’t have sex after your appointment.

There should be strictly no sexual intercourse for 24 hours after your bikini or Brazilian wax. A waxing session will inevitably cause a lot of little open wounds on your skin, making it more susceptible to bacteria, especially when you immediately have sex. Allow your skin’s protective barrier to heal and be restored before you get back in action.

  1. Pee and shower before your appointment.

It’s totally normal to be nervous before a bikini waxing session, but being too jumpy may lead to a nervous bladder. After you undress from the waist down, it’s also possible that you’ll feel a little colder, intensifying the feeling of needing to pee. So please be sure to head to the ladies’ room before your bikini waxing session.

  1. Proper hygiene is much appreciated.

We also suggest taking a good shower before your appointment. There have been cases where clients come to their appointments after working out or simply sweating out, which makes an unpleasant scent, especially when you get bikini waxing in Neutral Bay where the weather isn’t always cool. Taking a shower is simply a considerate thing to do. Plus, it also helps with a smoother wax application as natural oils, sweat, or body lotions can prohibit wax from adhering as well.

  1. Don’t sweat it out after the appointment.

Additionally, it’s not advisable to work out or do any physical activities 12-24 hours after a bikini waxing session. The friction in your tight activewear can cause irritation.

  1. Wear comfortable clothes.

A no-brainer, yet it’s often forgotten. Steer away from tight-fitting clothes like yoga pants as they can rub raw spots. Instead, go for loose pieces and breathable cotton fabrics, like maxidresses.
